Can Can
previews February 29, March 1 and 4, 2008
March 5 - April 6, 2008
music and lyrics by Cole Porter
book by Abe Burrows
directed by Kevin Bellie

The lush lyrics and memorable melodies of American musical master Cole Porter inspire the story of French Judge Forestier’s attempts to ban the nation’s most beloved dance.  When romance intervenes in the form of the Can Can’s most ardent supporter, La Mome Pistache, the Judge finds himself in a precarious position, torn between his obligations to the politics of the time and the livelihood of the woman he loves.  Featuring beloved classics such as “I Love Paris” and “It’s All Right With Me”, Can Can celebrates the musical stylings of the uniquely talented composer and features the Jeff Citation winning choreography of Kevin Bellie.

What the critics said:

"RECOMMENDED"
Chicago Reader

"When you combine a Cole Porter score with a funny Abe Burrows book and then have Bob Knuth design a vivid set and Kevin Bellie create choreography, you have the ingredients for a wonderful musical comedy. Highly Recommended!"
Chicagocritic.com, Tom Williams

"The show's most pleasurable moments are the well-executed dance numbers. The Quadrille turns over the stage to the high kicks, lifted skirts and, joyous yelps of Pistache and her Can-Can beauties."
Pioneer Press, Dan Pearson

"Can-Can is an attractive, delicious confection from the golden age of Broadway musicals."
Wednesday Journal, Doug Deuchler

"Director/choreographer Bellie's large, youthful cast twirls, spins, high-kicks and cartwheels their way across the stage in a bold, exuberant display."
Daily Herald, Barbara Vitello
